About the Temple
The lingam in the temple is at the center of a circular yonipitha inside the sanctum measuring 1.10 square meters and it faces west. An interesting legend relating to the temple says that Shiva had accidentally killed a calf and in order to repent for his sin and cleanse himself he was advised to take a bath in the Gosagaresvara pond and worship the Lord of Gosagaresvara.

In keeping with the tradition even today people suffering from the sin of killing cows, take a ritual bath in the tank and worship Gosagaresvara to cleanse themselves of their sin.
