Haleshwar Temple / Haleshwar Sthan

Overview


Haleshwar Sthan is located in the north-west direction of Sitamarhi and at a distance of a 3 Kms. Haleshwar Sthan is devoted to Lord Shiva. As the myth goes, the king Videha found a temple of Lord shiva on the occasion of Putra Yeshti Yajna. This temple was named Haleshwarnath temple.


About The Temple


Haleshwar Sthan is the place where King Janak began ploughing the field for rain and instead found Sita, Later she married Lord Rama. This place has an ancient Shiva temple, which is believed to be the first shivlinga setup in the state of Mithila. Currently, no archaeological survey has been performed at the site but the manuscripts on the stone found in the region are seemingly 7,000 years old. Savan Mela organized at this place is popular in northern Bihar and Nepal.

Airport

The closest air terminal is located in Patna, at a distance of 139 Kms.


Railways

On the Raxaul-Darbhanga rail route, the station of Sitamarhi is located. However, very less number of trains actually halts at this station. For more convenience, one can opt for the station in Raxaul.


Road

State transport buses ply to Sitamarhi from various locations; private coaches are also present.
