Overview
Jada Tirtham is a place near the Dhanushkodi road which finds special mention in the Hindu Epic Ramayana. As the legend narrates that Lord ram after defeating the Demon King- Ravana installed a Shivlinga here before which he washed his hair in the holy water tank. The tank is surrounded by sand dunes and the water in it is as sweet as that of a coconut. The Jada Theertham ia a small temple under a huge peepal tree in the premises of the Kaveri Theertham temple. It is locally believed in Jada Tirtham that the deities in Rameswaram come here to rest.
Legend and Stories
Sage Sukha who was the son of Sage Veda Vyasa upon being unable to attain great power was advised by Rajashri Janaka to visit this place. The sage attained his powers after his visit. He bathed in the Jadmaguda theertham and worshipped Dhyanalingas, Gnaneswarar ,Agnaneswarar. Renowneds sages like Maharishi Birgu and Maharishi Durvasa also visited this place and attained great benefits. The powers of the Jadamaguda Theertha are beyond description.
Festivals
The temple attracts huge crowds every year on Mahashivratri and on Maha Makam every twelve years.
Significance
It is believed that after taking a bath in the Theertham when one prays to the Lingamurthy one's great sins are washed away also praying here strengthens memory and heals the confused and fulfils the wishes of those seeking a child. Bathing in the Jadmaguda theertham on all maga star days every month is believed to be equivalent of bathing in the Mahamaka tank twelve times.
