Kauleshwari Devi Temple

The Kauleshwari Devi Temple is dedicated to Shakti and is located in Chatra, Jharkhand. There is a small cave near this temple, which has an image of Pasarvanath. This image of Pasarvanath has a hood over his head, which resembles the hoods of various snakes. Tourists can also see the Dhyani Mudra image of Pasarvanath, who was the 23rd Jain Tirthankara. There is another cave close to this one, from where three Jain images were transferred to Gaya. On Basant Panchami and Ram Navmi days, a large number of pilgrims flock to the hill top for worship. Sacrifice of goat in front of the temple is common. The temples and images are now a place of pilgrimage for the Hindus. Its height is about 1575 ft approx. To climb this hill stairs have been made. On this hill various collections of holy places of Jains, Hindus can be found. This place is also named as Kolhua, Kaleshwari. Sacrifice of goat in front of the temple is common.The temples and images are now a place of pilgrimage for the Hindus. Dr. M. A. Stein, however, who visited the hill in 1900, was satisfied that they were built by the Jains, who venerated it as the birth place of the tenth Trithankar, Sitala Swami, and fragmented it about 150 years ago. He felt that it was now entirely unknown to the ordinary Jains and is associated by the local Hindus with Pandwa brothers. One of the specimen is a rock cut group of ten Digambari Jain Trithankars. The main door of Kaleshwari Temple is closed between Bhado to Krishna Paksha Ashwini. The trek to the top of Kolhua hill on the temple of Kauleshwari Devi is quite steep and there are no steps.There is a big tank near the temple with good water. It is, however, preferable to carry water while going up.
