Overview
Kengala parameshwari is a famous temple in Torke (Kumta taluk) of Uttara Kannada District. The temple is named after Kengalu- a red coloured rice grain which is offered as parasad in the temple. An ancient Hero stone -Veeragallu which is a carved stone slab depicting life of an ancient Veera(a brave soldier).
Sanghada Mane also known as Ramakrishna Mandira was a building established in 1940 to hold the functions of Nadavara Sangha which has being constructed into a multipurpose community Hall.
Festivals
In the Hindu month of Bhadrapad the temple celebrates the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsva, which lasts three days. Another important festival is Navaratri (Maali Pooje) where the people here celebrate a two-day Bandihabba in its Kengala Parameshwari Temple which culminates in animal sacrifice known as Kolkuri. Diwali(Deepawali) is a major festival also known as Doddahabba and Balipaadya- Lakshmi Pooja are significant to businessmen and farmers of Torke. Festival of harvest- Suggi, is important for Halakki vokkaligas from Devana.
