Legend and Stories
Each night a Chola Ruler used to cross Thiruninriyur after worshipping at Sirkali. While crossing this village, the lamps taken by his companions used to blow off. Fascinated, he wanted to check it out and in the morning went to the same point. On observing Kamadhenu descending into the forest, he went to the spot. He cleared the bushes with his sword and moved forward through the forest. In the meantime his sword hit something blood started sprouting from that specific spot. He saw a Lingam in the vegetation, from where the blood was liquidating. The hole that the King accidentally made on top of the Shiva Lingam is still observable. At the same spot he erected this temple.
