- Tell us about this temple
The story behind this temple goes thus: Maharshi Siladhar undertook a penance on Lord Shiva for a child. By the grace of Lord Shiva, two male children were born to the Rishi whom he named Nandhi and Parvadhan. A group of rishis known as Sanakadhi sages visited Siladhar to see the children. They told him that Nandhi had a short life span, which hurt Siladhar. Nandhi consoled father Siladhar and said that he would undertake a severe penance on Lord Shiva and become immortal. Pleased with the penance of Nandhi, Lord Shiva made him his vehicle and also ordered that all visitors would have to come to him with the permission of Nandhi only. The place where Nandhi performed penance is at the foot of the hill called Nandhiyal. His brother Parvatha also performed penance and became a mountain.
