The secret Batuk Bhairav Temple is located at Devghat and is dedicated to God Shiva. Batuk Bhairav is nothing but a manifestation of the great God Shiva. The linga at this temple can be found just under the shelter of the sacred Peepal tree of the temple. Hoards of devotees come to this temple and offer poojas and homams and get rid of the serious and malicious effects of the Rahu and Shani planets. The main deity in this temple is worshipped in the form of God Bhairava. The Batuk Bhairav form of God is child-like. The other manifestations of the Bhairav are however of very depressing appearance. Behind the God Batuk Bhairav is a dog which signifies Dharma. Besides that, there are idols of black dogs which are revered as a type of incarnation of God Bhairav. Other manifestations of the God include that of Kaal and Akash Bhairav. There is an ancient Shakti Sangam Tantra which tells a legend which justifies the childlike form of the Batuk Bhairav God. According to this legend, there was once a very horrifying demon who was called as Aapat. He had conquered great power and had started terrorizing Gods. All Gods sat at one place and decided for a solution against this dangerous demon. All of them culminated their forms and a dazzling flash of light came and it was manifested as Batuk Bhairav who ultimately killed the dangerous demon. This is the very reason why he got the name of Aapat Uddharak Batuk Bhairav.
