Overview


The Temple of Lord Nrusinghanaath is situated at Durgapali, Nrusinghanaath, in Paikmal Block, under Padampur Sub-division, in the district of Bargarh, Western Orissa, India. It is 400km away from the capital city, Bhubaneswar of Orissa; 160 km from Sambalpur; 110 km from Bargarh; 115 km from Balangir; 80km from Nuapada/Sareipali/; 150km from Raipur.

About The Temple


The Nursinghanath is another beautiful and holy place of Orissa is situated at the slope of Gandhamardhan hill of Bolangir Dist. As per Hiuen-Tsang, the Chinese Traveler, the place was once a centre for Buddhist scriptural training. Lord Nrusinghanaath is the presiding deity of the place. According to Devnagiri Inscription, the temple was built by Baijaal Dev in the early 15th Century AD.

Legend and Stories


Stone steps are built up in the hill side leading past the waterfall and direct the pilgrims to a place having preserved relief sculptures. The beautiful Gandharmardhan Hill with full of trees is the main attraction of the place. The name of Gandharmardhan hill is also found a place in the great epic Ramayana. The hill is having trees of medicinal value. On the other side of the hill, there exists another famous temple named Hari Shankar. It is just 16 Km away from Nrusinghanaath. Flow of a couple of streams through the trees of the hill makes the scenery of the place more interesting and lovable.

Festival


A big fair is held annually here on the day Nrusimha chaturdashi during Vaishakha shukla chaturdashi (in the month of May). It attracts a huge number of pilgrims to this place.
