Pandharpur Temple

Accompanied by the Lord's consort, Rukmini, the deity (Vishnu) has taken the form of Swayambhu here, which means the idol has not been carved or etched out, but came into existence on its own. The deities look impressive with their blackish tinge. Adorned with beautiful ornaments and variety clothes. The temple is kept open for the devotees during Vari, the whole day. The temple is washed with water and deities would be fed with special meals. Named "Vithoba", the God signifies knowledge and shape. The other interpretation is "Vittala", derived from Marathi mainly from Puranas. "Vit" means brick and the intonation at the end denotes "Father". Also Krishna incarnated at the end of Dwapara-yuga on the eight day in the dark fortnight of the holy month "Shravan", as per the Hindu calendar. The almighty's worship has been made well-known through the teachings of poems, verses, and keerthanas by the saints who were collectively called as Pundarika Pura. The shrine is said to be centuries old and has an amazing architectural style. The devotees rub their backs on the scriptures to resolve their sins from the wheels of karma and rebirths.
