Overview
Pandurangan Temple is situated in Pillayar Koil street, which is at a distance of around 0.5 km from the popular Vadapalani Andavar Temple. The temple is a part of Pandurangan Ashram. The chief deity of the temple is Panduranga or Vitthal.
About The Temple
Pandurangan Temple was constructed by the late actress, Pandari Bai. The main sannidhi has the attractive idol of Pandurangan along with Rukmini. Pandurangan idol has its customary charm as that of the Pandurangan of Pandaripuram. Initially, this temple had only the shrine of Pandurangan . However, now the temple also has the shrine of Raghavendra Brindavan too. Hanuman, Garuda, Ganesha, Shiv Linga and Navagraha are the other idols that are found in this temple.
History of The Temple
Actress Pandari Bai had built Sri Pandurangan temple within the premise of her own house at Vadapalani in the year 1958 on a 4.5 ground plot. People began visiting the temple too. Pandari Bai told her husband (Rama Rao) to hand over the temple to Udupi Sri Bejwara Mutt at an suitable time as there would be nobody to take care of the temple after their demise. The temple was handed over to the mutt on 22-3-2004 by Sri Rama Rao as per the wish of Smt. Pandari Bai.
