Overview
Parijatha Vaneswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Tirukalar in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. Situated at a distance of about 21 kilometres from Mannargudi on the road to Thiruthuraipoondi, the presiding deity of the temple is Shiva. The temple is by lauded by Saints Tirugnana Sambandar and Tirunavukkarasar in their Thevaram psalms. This is the 105th Lord Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery adulated in Thevaram psalms.
About The Temple
80 feet tall Rajagopuram is confronting east. Ruler and Mother are favoring the lovers from their separate altars. There are sanctums for Lords Valampuri Vinayaka, Viswanatha, Somaskanda, Chandrasekhara, Dakshinamurthy, Muruga and Chandikeswara, and Mothers Gajalakshmi, Durga, Mahalakshmi, 63 Saivite Nayanmars and Sage Agasthya. Mother Ashtabuja Durga shows up grandly in sitting structure on the Lion vahan. Master Akora Veerabadra is confronting west in a different temple.
About The Deity
Master Subramanya taught the Panchakshara (mantra of five letters – Na, Ma, Shi, Va, Yah) to 60,000 sages and Sage Durvasa in this spot just. Valli and Deivanai are not with Lord Subramanya as He graces in the temple as an educator Guru. Ruler Shiva performed His Ananda move in Chidambaram and Perur, Aajaba in Tiruvarur, Gnana Sundara in Madurai, Oordhva in Avinashi, and Brahma Thandava in Tirumuruganpoondi. Here as well, Lord allowed the Brahma Thandava Darshan to Sage Durvasa which is portrayed in the temple. Sage Durvasa shows up with collapsed hands in an adoring structure. As per sacred writings, Durvasa performed the first sanctification of the temple. The Jeeva Samadhi-landmark of Kovilur pontiff, His Holiness Veerasekhara Gnana Desika Swami is close to the temple. Swamiji had rendered numerous redesigns to the temple. He is commended as Tirukalar Andavan. Sage Parasara and Kalava had revered in this temple. It is trusted that the request to God of one in the temple of a family will guarantee the salvation of all individuals. Those under unfriendly parts of the serpent planet Ketu begged here for help.
Legend and Stories
Sage Durvasa performed serious repentance in this spot looking for the Ananda Thandava darshan of Lord which He allowed to sages Vyakrapada and Patanjali. He brought the uncommon Parijatha blossoms from the heavenly world and made this spot thick with these trees. He additionally made a Shiva Linga and introduced it under the Parijatha tree and made a spring. He assembled the temple with the awesome stone carver. Henceforth the spot has names as Parijatha Vanam, Tharu Vanam, Karpaga Vanam as indicated by sacred texts. Satisfied with his repentance, Lord conceded the Brahma Thandava darshan to the sage. Kalari in Tamil likewise means move. Henceforth the name Kalari, which later changed as Tirukalar. Ruler likewise is lauded as Kalarmulai Nathar.

Chithirai celebration on Chitra star day in April-May; Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Navarathri in September-October; Skanda Sashti in October-November; Margazhi Sashti, Arudra Darshan and Nama Shivaya Panchakshara Mantra start on Sadayam Star day ( 3 celebrations) in December-January are the celebrations celebrated in the temple.
Significance
Lord of the temple is a swayambumurthy. It is the faith of the devotees that if one prays to Lord here, it will ensure the salvation of all members of his/her family. Those afflicted by adverse aspects of Ketu-serpent planet- pray here for relief. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and offer vastras.
