Paruppathanathar Temple

Sree Sailam regarded as Tirupparuppatham in the Tevaram hymns, near Curnool in Andhra Pradesh is a acclaimed Shivastalam, considered to be one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines spread all over India, the Northernmost one being Kedarnath and the Southernmost being Rameswaram. Sree Sailam is the first of the Tevara Stalams addressed in the Tamil hymns of the Nayanmars, situated outside of Tamilnadu / Kerala / Karnataka that is in the northern lands. This is a huge temple with several gopurams, on a hill which is said to be a manifestation of Nandi. This temple has been a site of Vijayanagar patronage, and is currently well visited and artistic place. Several other related Shiva temples are situated in the locality of Sree Sailam. Sambandar and Sundarar have performed its glories from Sree Kaalahasti. Adi Sankara is believed to have visited this shrine. The Bhramarambika Shrine within the temple compound is of great importance.
