Pataneswari Temple is a magnificent structure located at Sambalpur in Sambalpur District, Orissa. It was built by Balaram Dev, the first Chauhan ruler of Sambalpur during the 16th century. The temple consists of a sanctum with an enclosed circular count. The presiding deity here is Goddess Pataneswari, an incarnation of Goddess Kali. The deity occupies a pivotal position in the religious life of the people of Orissa.
