The Ranganathar Temple is located in the Kanchipuram region and is dedicated to God Vishnu. The Tiruparkadal Ranganatha temple is the twin of Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal temple. Here, God Vishnu is found in a reclined pose. The highlight of the temple is the main deity, which is made up of Atti tree wood. The idol looks exemplarily unique and beautiful. God Vishnu is seen reclining on Aadhi Sesha, the five faced serpentine, along with his consorts, Sri Devi and Boo Devi, also with Brahma. All these idols are made of wood. The temple is not too big. There are two separate shrines for Hanuman and Garuda. Azhwar idols are also present here. The idol of the Goddess is Ranganayaki. She looks stunningly amazing. It's said that when Brahma was doing yagna, his wife Saraswati took the form of a river and tried to destroy the yagna. Based on the request from Brahma, God Vishnu lied across the river and stopped from proceeding further. A similar story is associated with Yathodkari temple of Kancheepuram too. Also it is believed that Chitra Gupta, the assistant of Yama, visits this shrine regularly.
