Overview : Sri Soundareswarar Temple at Thiruppanaiyur is a God Shiva Temple located at Andipanthal, about 9.5 kms from Thiruvarur in the Peralam road. The main significances of the temple is that it is one among the 276 Thevara Paadal petra sthalams. The main deity God Shiva was set up and worshipped by sage Parasarar.Other main deities residing in the temple are God Azhagiya nathar, God Soundarya Nathar, God Sundareswarar, God Thalavaneswarar posing as Swayambu lingam confronts west on a Square Avudayar and the Goddess Periya Nayaki. Also it is accepted that Sundaramoorthy Nayanar got the privileged to watch the cosmic dance of God Shiva at the passageway to the town itself when Sundarar was on his way to the present day temple.The tank close to the Manikka nachiyar thittu, North East to this town is called Santhitha Theertham as a sign of the spot of this meeting.Sambandar and Sundarar created the Pathigam. When we enter the temple, we get the glimpses of the Vinayagar called Thunai Iruntha Vinayagar who was safeguarding Karikal Chola King.There is a picture of Paraasara. It is believed that Paraasara have dropped a little parcel of the divine nectar(Amritam)into the Temple tank and thus naming it as Amrita Pushkarini.There are seven lingams worshipped by the Saptha rishsis. Like the Vinayagar in Thiruvarur associated with the legend of Sundarar, the Vinayagar at the prharam here is additionally called Matru Uraitha Vinayagar.There are two palm trees here which grow by themselves without any seeds if the existing tree gets old.
