The Shri Heddayamman Nagarajar Temple is located in Manjakombai, in the Nilgiris region, and is dedicated to God Nagaraja. Once upon a time in Manjakombai, people were collecting sand to build a temple when they heard a sound. On investigating the source of the sound, they found an idol of Nagaraja and two caves. When they began to build a Nagaraja temple, a rock obstructed their construction work. On moving the rock, they found a snake in that spot. It is believed that the snake is still alive. This region is believed to be one of the most scenic spots in the Nilgiris. According to legend, while God Rama was passing through these temples, he had left his print of his feet on a rock here during his 14 years Vanavasa – forest life. There is also a feet symbol on a rock confirming this faith. A large number of Rama devotees visit this temple. The high monkey population in the locality supports the Ramayana theory. The temple is considered very powerful in healing the miseries of the devotees. Visitors come to the temple from various other states of India. The feet symbol of God Rama is revered highly by the devotees. Even today there lives a snake in the Nagaraja temple which has formed an underground passage to go to Heddai Amman Temple. Above all, the temple is situated in a poetically beautiful environment ensuring a high degree of mental peace to the visitors.
