Siddhanath Temple

Overview


The deity of God Shiva is worshipped at the holy Siddhanath Temple which is located at Mhaswad in Satara, Maharashtra. It is believed that God Shiva transformed into God Siddhanath and he is one of the protective Gods of the region. As per a legend, this region was once ruled by a Maratha Kshatriya named Mane of the ninety-six clan. The clan was known to be of the noblemen who were under the Aurangjeb Mongal and Deccan Sultanates. They were also allies of Chatrapati Rajaram Maharaj who had taken part in the Panipat war against Adbali. This region is famous due to his rule ever since.


Festivals


Every year, the festival called Jatra dedicated to God Siddhanath is celebrated with great joy in the temple. A chariot is built and the deity of God Siddhanath is enshrined on it. The chariot is then taken around the town and it is called Ratha Yatra. Thousands of devotees and tourists visit during this festival.

Airport

The airport of Lohegaon in Pune is nearest to the temple.

Railways

The Sangli Railway Station is nearest to the temple as it is only 99kms away. There is no station in the 10kms radius of Mhaswad.

Road

Frequent bus service is available to reach the temple at Mhaswad from Phaltan. The devotees can also hire a taxi to reach the temple.

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.

Timings

The devotees can visit the temple from 05:00 am in the morning till 10:00 pm in the evening.
