Overview : Sri Bhagavathi Amman Temple is located in Mandaikadu near Nagercoil to colachel State highway. The structure of the temple is based on the kerala style and simple. Neem tree and Bo tree are considered the holy trees. Pujas are conducted 4 times a day. This temple is said to be sabarimala for women. Bhagavathi Amman stands at 15 feet tall anthill. Women visits the place same as men go to sabarimala, having irumudi (puja items stored in a bundle for the Goddess). The Ceiling has orange coloured tiles with the anthill touching it. The higher end contains the face of Goddess Bhagavathi. Mandaiappam, which is prepared using flour, sugar and jaggery, is offered to the Goddess for relief from headache. No one is disappointed as believed by many. His Holiness Sri Sankaracharya was conducting Srichakra Puja with his Kerala followers in this place. One day as the puja was performed as usual, still the the chakra did not turn. Hence the Acharya waited in this place and reached Samadhi. This spot is where the anthill grew, where the Srichakra happened. Children who hit the anthill while playing were hurt. King Marthanda Varma of Kerala visited this place after he heard the stories to build a temple. He regularly performed pujas in this place. Slowly, the temple assumed importance among the followers. Even today the temple is famous for the blessings the followers obtains.
