Overview
The Dattatreyaswami Temple is located in Kozhumam and is dedicated to God Dattatreyaswami. The main deity is Dattatreya. The consort is Soundaranayaki. Vilva is the sthala vriksha. The shrine is 500 years old. There are also separate prakaras for Vinayaka, Muruga, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodhbava, Vishnu, Brahma, Moon and Suriya.
About the Temple
Lord Shiva in this temple is named Dattatreyar after the name of the Maharshi. Prayer in the temple benefits the devotee the power of concentration of the mind towards spiritual thinking and excellence in education and wisdom. Lord Shiva is facing east and Mother the south with a Soundara Flower in hand. The temple is on the banks of River Aamaravathi.
Legend and Stories
Maharshi Dattatreya was performing penance in this place which was once a jungle. A king hunting here by mistake shot an arrow on the Rishi though he aimed a deer. He begged the pardon of the dying Rishi for his unintentional act, Rishi told him that though he could pardon him, God would not. When the king further sought the advice of the Rishi, he was advised to build a temple for Lord Shiva and worship Him. Thus, the temple came into being.
Festivals
A temple and place without any festival. After the Mahasamadhi of Maharshi, the temple was built to remember him. Hence, Lord Shiva does not wish to have any festival. Even Pradosha pujas and Maha Shivrathri are not observed in this temple. Only Dattatreya Guru Puja is performed in Vaikasi – May-June.

Kumaralingam is 87 km from Coimbatore, 18 from Udumalpet and 21 from Palani. Bus facility is available from Udumalpet frequently. The closest railway station is in Udumalpet, and the closest airport is in Coimbatore.

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.
