As per the legend the Shiva Linga is believed to be installed by the great sage Agasthya and the temple was built in the ruling period of Banarishi the father of Akasaraju. When Goddess Alamelumangathaayaru suffocated with unknown illness, Akasuraju performed Abhishekams and yagnas to this Lord Agastheeshwara Shiva Linga with great saints and sages to cure her illness.
