Overview : Marthandeswara Temple is a temple of Lord Shiva located in the village of Karungulam. Since this is at the entrance of the village, it is also called as Marthandam Karungulam. The name Karungulam comes from the tamil words karun (meaning black) and kulam (meaning tank). This is due to the fact that this village is surrounded by tanks and the water in these tanks is blackish in colour.The principal deity is in the form of swayambu (self manifested). Speciality of this temple is that the navagrahas are accompanied by their respective consorts.
