Sri Masilamani Easwarar temple

The Sri Masilamani Easwarar Temple is located in Tirumullaivayil and is dedicated to God Sri Masilamani Easwrar. The story behind the temple is that the region was once a forest area where two demons called Vanan and Onan would regularly harass righteous sages. The ruler King Thondaman waged a war against them but in vain. While returning defeated, the king's elephant's legs were caught in a jasmine creeper. When the king cut off the creeper, it began to bleed making the king alight in fear. He then found a Shiva Lingam under the soil and attempted to take his own life out of regret. God Shiva appeared before the king and told him that he will continue to bless everyone. In the God's haste to protect the King, He didn't invite Ambica to join him. She joined the God later and now her shrine is situated to the right of the Shiva Lingam. God Shiva then sent Nandhi to help the king and his army defeat the demons. The king built a temple and brought two pillars made of Vellrukku tree and placed them there. Once can still see the pillars in the temple.
