The Nagarajar temple is located in Nagercoil, and is dedicated to God Nagaraja. Once when a woman was cutting grass, she accidentally hurt a snake with 5 heads. The snake began to bleed profusely. The woman narrated the incident to everyone in the village. The shocked villagers built a temple on the spot. Another version says that the King of Kalakkadu who was suffering from leprosy, prayed to Nagaraja and got cured. To show his gratitude, he built a temple that eventually became famous.
