Ramatheertham is a Temple Town for Sri Rama and is situated at about 13 kilometres from Vijaynagaram in Nellimarla Mandal of Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh. The Sri Rama Temple in Ramatheertham is situated on the Bavikonda hills with the Champa River flowing at its foot between Bhaskara Lake and Neelachalam Hills. The temple is built on a huge rock. The idols were installed and worshipped by the Pandavas during their twelve year long exile in the forest. The beautiful idols of Lord Ramachandra Swamy, Sita Devi and Lakshmana in Silver Kavachas can be seen at this temple. There is a beautiful lake in the vicinity of the temple. One can see tortoises with Vishnu Namams on their backs, roaming around in the temple. There is also a Rama Stambham installed by Pedda Jeeyar. The temple is about 1000 years old. Ramatheertham is also said to be famous as a Buddhist site according to some evidence in the region. On a black hill known as Gurubukhata Konda near this temple, one can see the remains of a large Buddhist Mahastupa about 19 feet high and 65 feet in diameter.
