Sri Subramaniaswami Temple

The Subramania Swamy temple is located in Tiruparankundram and is dedicated to God Muruga. Tirupankundram is a small district in Madurai and is more than 1,000 years old. The temple is about 7 kilometers off the Madurai-Kanyakumari road. The Devas appealed to God Shiva to protect them from the terror strikes of demon Surapanma. God created Muruga from six sparks from his forehead eye. God Muruga fought Surapanma, destroyed and made of him a peacock for his vehicle and a cock for his flag. This happened in Tiruchendur. Indira offered his daughter Deivanai to Muruga in marriage. The marriage took place in Tiruparankundram attended by a huge number of Rishis, Devas and Gods. God Muruga graces here in the wedding form.
