Sri Uthra Ranganatha temple

The Uthara Ranganathar Temple is situated in Pallikonda and is dedicated to God Ranganatha. The temple is quite near Vellore on the banks of Palar River. It is believed that the shrine was rebuilt during Vijayanagara Empire and Sambuvaraya kings. The presiding deity is Sri Ranganatha called as Adi Moola. He is seen with his consort Ranganayaki. There are separate Sannadhis for Sri Rama and Garuda Bhagavan. Recently, the Raja Gopuram has been renovated and consecrated on a grand way. When there was a fight between Saraswathi and Lakshmi on who was the bigger one of the two of them, Brahma declared Lakshmi was bigger. Saraswathi deserted Brahma out of anger. When Brahma conducted a yagna, Saraswathi refused to join him. So Brahma married another lady called Savithri and conducted the Yagna. Saraswathi’s anger grew more and she tried to disturb the yagna with the help of demons by creating a flood in the Palar. Then he prayed to God Narayan and He just lied across the Palar River in three places to stop the flood. The places are Pallikonda (called Vadavarangam), Thirupparkadal near Kaveripakkam and Yadhothkari at Kanchipuram. The temple is inside a fort like structure. People getting married at this temple will get all the 16 types of wealth.
