- Tell us about this temple
The Sri Veera Anjaneyar Temple is located in Shanmughapuram and is dedicated to God Anjaneya. The idol is a swayambu. During the rule of the Cholas, the Swayambu was discovered and a small temple was built for so that people could worship, according to folklore. There is a spot where a small water spring can be seen near this temple. There is a belief that there are two snakes that take a bath in this water and go to the sanctum sanctorum to worship the God. There are shrines for God Yoga Narasimha, Chakaratheshwar and Vinayaka with twin face. The God of this kshetra Sri Veera Anjaneya Swami stands tall and majestic. Tall about nine to ten feet in height. The majestic murti gives an impression that we need not to worry when He is there. Sri Hanuman in standing posture with His right hand in ‘Abaya mudra’ and on the left hand He is holding Sowgandhika flower. In both the hands He is wearing ‘kankanam’. The long tail of Sri Anjaneya is seen raised above his head. The God’s tuft is seen neatly tied. The God is wearing three sets of ornaments in his neck.
