Sri Venni Karumbeswarar Temple

The Sri Venni Karumbeswarar Temple is located in Needamangalam and is dedicated to God Venni Karumbeswarar. The presiding deity of this temple is known as Triambakeswarar, Rasapureeswarar or Venni Nathar while the Goddess is called as Azhagia Nayaki or Soundara Nayaki. The temple is praised in the Thevaram hymns of Saints Tirunavukkarasar and Tirugnanasambandar. This is the 102nd Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery praised in hymns. The temple faces the eastern direction. The holy tank Surya Theertham is situated opposite the temple. Other deities in the temple include Murugan, Vinayagar, Gajalaxmi, Bairavar and Navagraha. Goshta moorthies include Narthana Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingothbavar and Durgai. This region was once dense with sugarcane fields. Two sages who visited this place felt the presence of God Shiva here. One argued that the sacred tree of the place be sugarcane while the other said that it should be Venni or the Nandhiavartham. Hearing their arguments, a divine voice said both could be the sacred trees. Since then, God is worshipped as Karumbeswarar in Tamil and Rasapureeswarar in Sanskrit. The place is named after the sacred tree as Venniyur. Later, this changed into Koil Venni. Temple is in the Direction of East. Surya Theertham is situated in Opposite. Three Nilaraja Temple, There are Nandhi and Palipeedam. Murugan, Vinayagar, Gajalaxmi, Bairavar and Navagraha are situated inside the temple. Narthana viayagar, Dhakshana moorthi, Lingothbavar, Durgai are Kosta Moorty.
