- Tell us about this temple
The Sri Vagrapatheswarar temple at Pulippara Koil, is situated about a kilometre from the Padalam Railway Gate between the railway gates and the Arasar koil. Vyagrapatheswarar is a rishi with a human face and a tiger’s legs. He worshipped Shiva in many places in this belt and the Shiva Lingam bore the marks of the foot of a tiger. Thiruppulivanam, near Uthiramerur, is another such temple. A typical massive Chola temple, Thiruppulivanam is constructed in the Gajaprashta style with big mandapams, praharams and wonderful sculptures. Unfortunately, in the name of reconstruction, the structure of the temple along with the inscriptions has been destroyed. Right now, it stands as the perfect model to show how an ancient structure is not to be reconstructed. This temple also has a Muruga shrine on the outer south east.
