The Subramania Temple is located in Siruvapuri, a small village near Chennai, and is dedicated to God Muruga. Siruvar in Tamil means a small boy. Siruvapuri got its name from a legend according to which the sons of Ram, Luv and Khush, captured and tied up the horse that belonged to God Ram. In order to get the horse back, Ram's brothers fought with the boys, but were defeated, so Ram himself had to go, and face his sons, though at the time, he had no idea who they were. There is another legend that is attributed to this temple. Hundreds of years ago, an ardent devotee of Muruga, Murugammai lived in this village. She used to pray to him and kept chanting his name. Her husband did not like that and asked her to stop it. When she did not listen to him, he cut her arms off. She cried out to Muruga for help, and He rejoined her arms and blessed her.
