Sureswari Temple is regarded as the oldest Shakti shrine in Sonpur. Devi Sureswari is also the presiding deity of Sonepur. A six handed standing image of Kali is worshipped in the sanctum of the temple as Sureswarai. It is situated on the left bank of Tel River towards the south-west of the confluence of Mahanadi River and Tel. The main gate of the temple faces towards east but Devi Sureswari looks towards north. Seven ponds are found by the temple side of Sureswari.
