Overview
Thirumalida Mahadeva Temple, Mallappally is located right on the banks of the river Manimala. Lord Shiva is the main deity who is worshipped in this temple. The temple is unique and different in some ways. The Lord is facing the western side of the river in the temple. The shrine of this temple is often compared with the shrine in Kashi Viswanath.
Legend and Stories
There is a typical history associated with this temple. A woman of a lower caste came here to collect grasses. She struck her sickle to a stone and was surprised to find blood. The rulers of the area were informed. It was a miracle and the shrine of Lord Shiva was found. Since the name of the women who first recognized the shrine was Thirumali, the temple was named after her.

Plenty of events in association with Lord Shiva are held here. Some of these include Shivratri, Thiruvathira, Vinayak Chaturthi, Skanda Shasthi and many more. Mandala Mahotsavam are also celebrated here.
