Overview
The Sri Theeyadiappar Temple is located at Thirukattupalli and is dedicated to God Shiva. This temple was praised in the hymns of Thevaram and it is also classified as the Paadal Petra Sthalam.
About the Temple
It is known that God Brahma, Sun, Bagiratha and the queen of Urayur came here and worshipped the God in this particular temple. When God Agnideva came here to worship this temple was named as Agneeswaram. This temple was renovated during the time of Chola when Uthama Chola was the ruler. In the epigraphy, the name of the Goddess in this temple is mentioned as Azhagammai. Every day, puja is conducted for four times a day. During the festival of Panguni Uthiram, water is specially brought from the River Cauvery. Devotees who have a dip in the Cauvery river during the Karthikai Sundays, Masimagam, Panguni Uthiram and Vaikasi Visagam are known to be blessed with a lot of benefits. The Kumbabhishekam of this temple happened in the year 1983.
About the Deity
The chief deity of this temple is Swayambu Lingam which is also known as Agneeswarar. He can be seen with his consort which is known as Soundara Nayaki or Azahgamar Mangai.
Legend and Stories
According to legend, once a servant of the King of Urayur got some Sevvandhi flowers which were supposed to be used for the puja of God Shiva. He gave those flowers to the king. The king gave the flowers to his two wives. The elder wife offered it to God Shiva while the younger one wore it as an jewel on her head. First wife used to live in Tirukattupalli which grew into a big land and was appreciated by all while the place where the second wife lived was destructed badly.

The main festivals that are celebrated and organized in this temple are Masi Magam, Panguni Peruvizha, Shivarathri, Aipasi Annabhishekam and Margazhi Tiruvadhirai.

Devotees come here and pray for smooth marriage talks. They also pray to the God to get great education and prosperity. When their wishes are fulfilled, the devotees offer clothing to the God.
