Overview
Thrikovil - Sree Padmanabaswamy temple is a Hindu temple. Lord Vishnu is the presiding deity. It is located at Vallikkode village in Pathanamthitta District in Kerala, India. This place is the second important Vishnu temple of its kind just after renowned Padmanabaswamy temple of city Trivandrum. The main attraction of this temple is a ten-day festival, Dashvatara Chaarth.
About The Temple
Thrikovil Sree Padmanaba Swami temple is a great example of Dravidian architecture. The Shikharas of the temple are adorned with special kind of radioactive material. The basement in the temple is said to have a treasure. The main hall is divided into two sections. In lower section, devotees can see the sculptures of Lord Vishnu and his ten incarnations. Upper section is basically devoted to all other important Gods and Goddess such as Durga, Kali, Lord Natraj and Lord Shiva.
Legend and Stories
The sacred Thrikovil Sree Padmanaba Swami temple was constructed during the 13th century. However, according to some, the temple was constructed by a local king who ruled the state during the 11th to 14th centuries. The temple resembles the original Padmanaba temple of Trivandrum city. The Padmanaba temple of Trivandrum is famous for its incredible treasure.
