- Tell us about this temple
The Vallabeswarar Temple is located in Tirukoodalai Attrur and is dedicated to God Vallabeswarar. A Chola king suspected his wife's fidelity. So he went ahead to kill her and thus incurred the Brahmmahati dosha (the impact of sin of murder). The king then wandered here and there as a lunatic. He once saw a dog with skin diseases following him. Suddenly the dog fell in a river and came back healthy and beautiful. The king too followed the dog's example. He jumped into the river and got his relief. The king also got back his kingdom and so, he built this temple on the banks of the confluence of the two rivers and named the place Tiru Koodalai Attrur meaning the confluence of the rivers. Later this shrine was dilapidated and deities were lost. Mother appeared in the dream of the priest and told him of her presence in the river. The priest discovered the idols and the present temple was built.
