Overview
The temple for Veerabhadhreshwara, is located in a small village known as Godachi. Godachi is in the district of Belgaum which comes under the state of Karnataka. The name of the place is got from that of the plant kodachi or godachi (Zizyphus xylopyrus), which grows amply in this area.
Godachi is a small village in the Ramdurg Taluq of Karnataka. This place is located in the Belgaum district and it has many beautiful temples including the Shri Veerabhadra temple. A famous fair is held here every year. This fair is popularly known as Godachi Jatre held in November or December, during the month of Karthik in the Hindu calendar. This fair serves as a social and commercial gathering. Traders and artisans from neighboring villages gather here to exhibit and sell their goods.
Religious items like vermilion, flowers, woodworks, stone carvings, handicrafts, clothes, agricultural produce, cattle – all are sold during temple fairs
About The Temple
The architecture of Veerabhadra temple is a mix of Chalukya and Vijayanagara style. The entrance is of Chalukyan style, while the Garbhagraha or the sanctum mirrors Vijayanagara Style. Weddings are organized in the temple. The temple has regular visitors on a daily basis, and are more on Amavasya or Poornima days. The Temple is surrounded by choultries to accommodate the devotees.
About The Deity
The chief deity of this shrine is Shri Veerabhadra who is believed to be one Shiva’s attendants and also another form of Lord Shiva. Veerabhadra was created by Lord Shiva to destroy Daksha’s Yagna. Amavasya and Poornima days are of specific importance here, and more people visit the temple to worship the deity on these days.
