Overview
The Velappaya Shiva Temple is an ancient shrine located at a village called Velappa in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India. The temple is counted one among the 108 Shiva Temples of Kerala consecrated by Parasurama.
About the Temple
The Velappaya Shiva Temple is one of the finest examples of Kerala-Dravidian architecture. The chief deity of this temple is Lord Shiva who graces facing the west. Legend has it that the idol of Lord Shiva is made by Lord Shiva. There are two Shiva lingas in the Velappayam temple which are housed in separate shrines.
