West Bengal Gaudiya Math

The Gaudiya Math temple is located in Chennai, and is dedicated to God Krishna. The Gaudiya Math was established in West Bengal, in 1918, to spread the teachings of Chaitanya Maha Prabhu who was an ardent follower of God Krishna. Subsequently, 64 branches of the temple came up all over the country. The Gauduya Math in Chennai was established in 1932. In the 15th century, in order to provide solace to the multitudes of people who were reeling under political oppression and the evils of casteism, and to prevent rampant conversion away from Hinduism, it is believed that the God himself made his appearance as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to spread the religion of Love, Brotherhood and Fraternity. He preached equality of all humans before the eyes of God. His teachings reached every nook and corner of the country and its universality appealed to all. In a short time the Math in Chennai became an important spiritual centre in South India. The Math holds seminars, conferences and regular discourses. Pujas are performed everyday and Bhajans are sung in praise of the Supreme God. The Math believes that the essence of religion should not be narrowed down to the rituals and poojas but must remain at a much higher plane of sincere self dedication to God. The objective of Gaudiya Mutt is to spread the preachings of Chaitanya Maha Prabhu, the great devotee of God Krishna. A lot of branches of Gaudiya Mutt were established in various places across India. Similar to every other Gaudiya Mutt, this Mutt in Chennai also has a small temple for God Krishna. God Krishna is found to be in the form of a black idol that is extraordinarily beautiful idol. He is seen carrying a flute and is seen posing with his beloved lady, Radha.
