Pradhosha pooja is a standout amongst the most essential among the poojas performed to the Graceful Lord Shiva. In Shukla Paksha (15 moon days from New moon to Full moon) and Krishna Paksha (15 moon days from Full moon to New moon) the night of the trayodasi (thirteenth moon day) between 4.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. is called Pradhosha. It comes once in fifteen moon days. Pradhosha time is particularly implied for asking Lord Shiva. Asking in that the truth will surface and eventually sins will be washed away to give moksha at last (thus the name Pradhosha). Amid pradoSha time an uncommon sort of circumambulating called soma sutra pradaxinam is done.

The Dhevas and Asuras used the serpent Vasuki and the hill Mandhara  to churn the milk ocean (Kseerabthi) to derive the Amirtha. The awful Poison Halahalam resulted. When all were frighten Lord Shiva came up and drank the poison, But Goddess parvati caught hold of his throat and stopped the poison midday, resulting a Blue neck for Lord Shiva.On the twelfth day Dhwadhasi the amirtha came up. The devas were very happy and started rejoicing their new found treasure, even withouth thanking the Gods, who were the reason for their victory.

On thrayodhasi (thirteenth moon day) they realized their sin of not praying the God and pleaded for forgiveness. The pleased graceful Lord Shiva forgave them and danced between the horns of the Nandhi (holy bull). This time frame is called Pradhosham. Lord Shiva fulfills the wishes of his devotees who pray to his during this Prodosha kalam and also grants Mukthi.

During Prodhosha time anointing (Abhishekam) the Shiva linga with the following is considered fruitful.

 On embracing Lord Shiva with Love, He would give Himself !!
