Crow is the vehicle of Lord Shaneeswaran and feeding crows pleases Him. There are four types of crows, Nupuram, Parimalam manikakai and Andankakai , there are no other birds as cunning as the crow. It is believed that Lord Yama takes the form of a crow to know the whereabouts of humans.
Hence, feeding crows pleases both Lord Yama and Lord Shaneeswaran, his brother. It is believed that we will be successful in our endeavours if we happen to hear the crow caw before we have risen from the bed in the morning, Feeding the crows near our residence is believed to please Lord Yama, his sibling Lord Shani Dev and our ancestors.
