Sashti Vratham 

Maha Skanda Sashti falls just after the Deepavali festival. Devotees begin their fast on the prathamai day and finish it after seeing the surasamkharam.  Vrata is observed during the monthly Sashti also. Sashti happens during both Theipirai (waning) and Valarpirrai(waxing).

Both Sashti’s are considered auspicious. It is believed that Lord Muruga attained prosperity and authority on Sashti day. As per pavishya purana it is said that the devotees who observed monthly Sashti Vrata are blessed with success, courage, health, diseases less long life.
