In today’s post let us see the significance of Sankatahara Chaturthi, Sankatahara Chaturthi is also known as Sakat Chauth in North India. Sankashti Chaturthi during Magha month is known as Sakat Chauth. Meaning of Sankatahara Chathurthi – Sankata (problems) and Hara (Killing or removing). Thus Sankatahara Chathurthi is a day to invoke God Ganesha’s blessings to remove all obstacles in life.

Sankatahara Chathurthi vratam is very propitious for removing all problems in life and to convert the problems into opportunities. This fast is mostly observed in Southern and Western India especially in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, it is auspicious to fast during the day and break the fast after sighting the crescent moon later in the evening.

It is considered very auspicious when Sankatahara Chaturthi falls on Tuesday and is known as Angaraki Sankatahara Chaturthi. People, who have sevvai dosham or kuja dosham can worship God Ganesha on this day. Arugam pul or Dhurva occupies a significant place during the puja, the main Naivedhyam of the day is Modhakam.

According to Hindu mythology, God Shiva acknowledged his son Sankashti as superior to all the Gods, excepting God Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, God Shiva and Goddess Parvati. As per another legend, the planet mars and moon had worshipped God Ganesha and attained great blessings.
