Srivari Brahmotsavam – Tirupathi Tirumala
The Brahmotsavam at tirupathi is known as the Srivari Brahmotsavam. So why is it called Brahmotsavam and how many days does it happen? Here is a gist of Srivari Brahmotsavam.
Reason for the name
As per Sri Venkteswara Sahasranamastotra it is believed that God Brahma descends to the earth to conduct this festival hence the name- Utsav performed by Brahma- Brahmotsavam.
When is Brahmotsavam?
Brahmotsavam coincides with the Navarathri or Dusshera festival occurring in the Asvin month. It is a 9 day festival like Navarathri. This year 2017 it is starts on 23-Sep-17 and ends on 1-oct-17
What happens during the Brahmotsavam?
During the Brahmotsavam the processional deity (the utsava-murti) of Lord venkateswarara along with his consorts Bhudevi And Sridevi are taken on processions in different Vahanas, on the four mada streets surrounding the temple. The vahanas are led by the Brahmaratham. The priests chant various hyms along side the procession.
