Third Day of Navratri – Maa Chandraghanta 

The third day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta Maa. She is one of the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga. She has a half-moon on her forehead. It is in the shape of a bell and that is why she is called by the name Chandraghanta Devi. She is beautiful, blissful and peaceful. She wears a white dress and the lion is her vehicle. She has three eyes and ten hands. In her hands, she carries a sword, trishul, gada, kamandal, bell, arrow, lotus and bow.

Rituals

Devotees worship all Gods and Goddess including the sacred Kalash of navratri. This is followed by a special worship of Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya and Goddess Saraswati, Lakshmi, Jaya and Vijaya. Chandraghanta Maa is the symbol of peace, strength and bravery.

Mantras for Third Day of Navratri

Chanting mantras is one of the ways of worshipping and pleasing the goddess who has the ultimate power. The following is the mantra:

Om Aim Hreem Chandraghantay Namah ||

Maa Chandraghanta Prarthana

Pindaj Pravaraarudha Chandkopastra Kairyutaa
Prasaadam Tanute Mahyam Chandram Ghanshteti Vishruta.

Maa Chandraghanta Stuti

Ya devi Sarvabhooteshu Maa Chandraghanta Rupen Sansthita |
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah||

The meaning of this Stuti is    

I join hands in front of the supreme Goddess (Chandraghanta) and worship the goddess who has a bell shaped mark of moon on her forehead, I ask for the forgiveness for all the bad deeds I have done in my life.
