In the last post we saw about Lord Bhairava, how to worship him, his appearance and a gist of his form. In this post we’ll see in brief about his forms, consort, vahana, Direction, temple Nakshatra, moola mantra and benefits of worshipping Him.
There are different flowers and leaves used to perform archana to Lord Bhairava. The Ashta Bhairavas represent the pancha boothas (air, water, space, land, fire) and the three beings (sun, moon and atma). Each Bhairava is unique in appearance, has different vahanas and bestows different blessings representing the AshtaLakshmi.
1. Sri Asithanga Bhairavar
Appearance: Golden complexion, with well-formed limbs, and carries the Trishula, Damaru, Pasha noose and Khadga sword.
Consort : Brahmi
Vahana : Swan
Direction : East
Temple : Sattanathar Temple, Sirkazhi and Brahmasirakanteeswarar Temple, Thirukandiyur.
Nakshatra / Birth Star : Punarpoosam, Visakam, Purattadhi
Stone : Puspharagham (Yellow Sapphire)
Worship Benefits : Gives creative ability.
Asithanga Bhairavar Moola Mantra

Meaning: I bow down to Asitanga Bhairava who appears with mother Brahmi Devi and removes all curses.
2. Sri Ruru Bhairavar
Appearance: Pure white, adorned with ornaments set with rubies. Ruru carries the akshmala rosary, a Pustaka book, Ankusha, elephant goad and a Vina lute.
Consort : Maaheshwari
Vahana : Ox (Rishabam)
Direction : South-East
Temple : Rathnagiriswarar Temple,Thirumarugal
Nakshatram/ Birth Star : Karthikai, Uthiradam, Uthiram
Stone : Manickam (Ruby)

Ruru Bhairavar Moola Mantra

3. Sri Chanda Bhairavar
Appearance: Blue color and good-looking. Chanda carries Agni, Shakti spear, Gada mace and Kunda water pot.
Consort : Koumaari
Vahana : Peacock
Direction : South
Temple : Vaitheeswaran Koil
Nakshatram/ Birth Star : Mirugasiridam, Chithirai, Avittam
Stone : Pavazham (Coral)
Worship Benefits : Gives incredible energy, cuts competition and rivals.
Chanda Bhairavar Moola Mantra

Maha Chanda Bhairavaya Namaha
Meaning: I bow down to Chanda Bhairava who is blue in colour and the repository of all powers.
4. Sri Krodha Bhairavar
Appearance: Smoke color carrying Khetaka shield, a long Khadga sword and Parashu
Consort : Vaishnavi
Vahana : Eagle (Garuda)
Direction : South-West
Temple : Thiruvisanallur, Thirunaraiyur
Nakshatram/ Birth Star : Rohini, Astham, Tiruvonam
Stone : Muthu (Pearl)
Worship Benefits : Gives you the power to take massive action.
Krodha Bhairavar Moola Mantra

5. Sri Unmatha Bhairavar
Appearance: White color, good-looking and carry in their hands the Kunda, iron bludgeon, the Khetaka, club studded with iron, the Parigha iron club and Bhindipala javelin.
Consort : Vaarahi
Vahana : Horse
Direction : West
Temple : Thiruveezhimizhalai
Worship Benefits : Controls negative ego and harmful selftalk.
Unmatha Bhairavar Moola Mantra

6. Sri Kapaala Bhairavar
Appearance: Yellow color, carrying the same weapons as Unmatta.
Consort : Indrani
Vahana : Elephant
Direction : North-West
Temple : Thiruvirkudi Veerataneswarar Temple, Thirupanthuruthi
Nakshatram/ Birth Star : Bharani, Pooram, Puradam
Stone : Vairam (Diamond)

7. Sri Bheeshana Bhairavar
Appearance: Red colour, carrying the same weapons as Unmatta.
Consort : Chamundi
Vahana : Lion
Direction : North
Temple : Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram and Kodunkundranathar Temple, Piranmalai.
Nakshatram/ Birth Star : Thiruvadhirai, Swati, Sadayam, Ashwini, Magha, Mula
Worship Benefits : Obliterates evil spirits and negativity.
Bheeshana Bhairavar Moola Mantra

Appearance: Lightning color, carrying the same weapons as Unmatta.

Direction : North-East

Nakshatram/ Birth Star: Ayilyam, Ketai, Revathi
