Who is Lord Bhairava?
Lord Bhairava is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The name Kala Bhairava by itself explains he is the Lord and controller of Time.
What are the forms of Lord Bhairava?
There are 64 Bhairavas, grouped under 8 categories. They are called the Ashta Bhairava. Each one is headed by one main Bhairava.

Lord Shiva is the Adi Moola Kaala Bhairava and there are many other Bhairava forms. The 8 major categories of Lord Bhairava are Asithanga Bhairavar, Ruru Bhairavar, Chanda Bhairavar, Krodha Bhairavar, Unmatha Bhairavar, Kapaala Bhairavar, Bheeshana Bhairavar and Samhaara Bhairavar. There is a 9th form known as Swarna Akarshana Bhairava. Maha Bhairavar is known to be Lord Shiva himself.
Where can I worship Lord Bhairava? / Abode of Lord Bhairava?
Lord Bhairava is present in almost all the Shiva temples, he is known as the Keshetrabalar. He is placed in south-west corner of the temple and is seen facing the north. He is also seen facing other directions. If a Bhairavar idol is faces west it is good; faces south – moderate; faces east – not good.
What is the appearance of Lord Bhairava?
He blesses his devotees in the standing form with four hands. In some forms he is seen with more than 4 hands. He is seen without dress and with a dog vehicle. He sports a drum, pasam, trident and a skull. Lord Bhairava looks frightful with the dog, protruding teeth, terrifying looks and a garland with red flowers.

Lord Bhairava is happy when anointed with Ghee, red flowers, gheelamps, honey, unbroken coconut, fibrous fruits and boiled food.
When to worship Lord Bhairava?
The appropriate time to worship Lord Bhairava is midnight, most auspicious is Friday midnight. (This year Kala bhairava Jayanthi falls on 10-Nov-17, Friday.) It is believed that lord Bhairava along with his consort Bhairavi bless the devotees at midnight. He is worshiped on the Krishna paksha (theipirai) ashtami day.
