2017 – A Snapshot
With this fabulous year 2017 coming to an end, let’s see all the spiritual events that we cherished and what Ishta Devata had done to educate its followers.
To begin with January, we had Arudra darshanam and it significance, Hanuman Jayanthi, Mahara Villakku, specialties of Thai velli, effects of performing Thoppukarnam (super brain yoga) Not to miss the post about Pongal.
In February, the most celebrated event was Maha shivarathri, we have posts on the legends, Shivalaya ottam, origin of Shivarathri and forms of Shiva as a part of the Maha Shivarathri celebrations. There is also this festival of Thai Poosam relishing the event of Mother Parvathi gifting Lord Muruga the Vel.
In March, we had the important festival of Karadaiyan Nombu, were women pray for the Long life of their husband. We will be doing a post this year also for the same. There are posts about Chaitra/ Vasantha Navarathri.
In April, the Telegu new year- Ugadi, Birth day of Lord Rama – Rama Navami, Panguni Uthiram and we have shared various Thirumurais to cure various issues. We have also done articles on Parasuram Jayanthi, Tamil Varusha Pirapu and what to donate on Akshaya tritya and their significance. Other important events were Thissur pooram, Chitirai thiruvizha and Ramanujar Jayanthi (1000th yr celebration).
In May, we have mentioned about Narashima Jayanthi, chitra pournima and the importance of Lord Bhairava worship on Theipirai Ashtami.
The Jagannath puri ratha Yatra took place during June, we have few stories and a post on significance of the Ratha Yatra. Vaikasi Visakam, Aani uthiram and aani thirumanjanam. There are other posts on Why do we worship Lord Vinayaka even on the streets, Reasons to chant Gayatri mantra.and an explanation of the saying pathinaaru petru peru vallvu valha.
In the month of July, there are posts that educate our followers about the various vrats performed by women for longevity of their husband. Do’s and Don’t on Fridays and Tuesdays. Naga panchami celebrations were the sister prays for her brother. We started with the Sri Krishna story and video series this month. A post on Adi puram, explaining its importance.
In the month of August, Varalakshmi vrata, Adi peruku, How to draw Aishwarya Kolam, gayatri japam associated with the eclipse. We at IshtaDevata distributed Prasad to various Ganesha temples in Chennai. We also had a brief post on the 32 forms of Ganesha. The Krishna Jayanthi also occurred in month of August, we have a post talking about the preparations for janmastami, its recipes and significance.
In September, We all got busy with the navarathri celebs and all hyped about the Golu dolls and decorations. We had Durga stories for Navarathri and a brief video and image gallery on various dolls available at various places across Chennai like, pompukar, Mylapore, Alwarpet and Kuralagam. We had also covered few gollu decorations from various residences. As the Month of Puratassi begin in the mid of September, We have included a post about why should people not consume meat during Puratasi month.
In the month of October, we had this festival where the North Indian women pray for the longevity of their Husband. Along with Diwali comes the Skanda sashti festival, we had different videos from the yesteryears movie narrating the story of how each padai peedu of lord Muruga came into existence. We had other general posts on remedy for disease in children.
In November, we had this festival called Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, which is related to Lord Shiva. After Diwali we had Dev Diwali (Diwali of the Devas) and Bhairava jayanthi, for which we have posts about Ashta Bhairavas their moola mantras and Swarna Akarshana Bhairava. We also did a post on ways to get rid of Debt, The holy bath event of Thula snanan and Mudavan muzhuku happened during this month. With the onset of Karthigai month, the mandala kala also begins during the month of November.
The Karthigai deepam occurred during the second week of December. We have posts about how to get ready for the karthigai deepam festival, recipes and we also did a video shoot on the types of agal villakku available for the karthigai deepam. The Marghazhi month begun from the Mid of December, to enable the devotees read the Thirupavai and Thiruvempavai we made posters of each song along with its meaning and audio. Not to leave out the most important event of Vaikuntha ekadasi and Hanuman Jayanthi, we had post on how to perform Hanuman pooja at home, that occurred during the December month. Another most feared, Saturn transit also occurred during December, to help our fellow devotees overcome fear and anguish, we have posted few remedies to be freed from Sani dosha and seven and half sani and that’s the end of this Fabulous Year and lets all welcome the New Year 2018 with merriment and devotion.
